I provide support to business executives and translate potential into performance while maintaining a healthy balance in their lives. I do this in three main areas:
CASE STUDY Challenge – Paul, a newly appointed CEO, came to me complaining that he felt overwhelmed and highly stressed causing him to doubt his capability to fulfill the demands of his position. He identified a few members of his management team as the major culprits leading to his emotional state. There had been several angry confrontations between Paul and members of his team and he was having difficulty finding mutually agreeable solutions. Process – In our conversations it became evident that there were a few key issues that were complicating Paul’s relationship with his team members. It became clear that a certain level of trust was lacking in these relationships and that he had little confidence that two of his managers were competent enough to accomplish the necessary goals. We discussed the reasons behind the low level of trust he had for his team and found that it was his own inability to assist them in setting appropriate objectives that was impeding their progress. Moreover, his unrealistic expectations and difficulty delegating responsibility were further exacerbating the situation. Instead of facilitating his team and empowering them to take personal initiative, his attitude and behavior undermined their confidence and created an atmosphere of discord. Together, Paul and I uncovered that he had two unconscious beliefs about perfectionism and over responsibility that were blocking his attempts at any solutions. Results – Over a six month period our sessions together increased Paul’s awareness of his self-sabotaging patterns and allowed him to see that he needed to proactively meet with his management team and clarify the roles and accountability of each person. In addition, I assisted him in devising for himself guidelines for delegating assignments and projects and provided him with some tools and techniques for handling confrontations with assertiveness, confidence and composure. |
